The goal of the project "Education for Employment" was to support disabled persons on the job market by education. ACZ has chosen four types of training – the course of personal development, ICT courses, vocational training and finally courses of English language. All learning modules were independent of other type of course so each client could have chosen his preferred course.
The course of personal development is supposed to be the entering course. Its purpose was to introduce to clients the issue of unemployment from broader perspective. They learned to orient on the employment market and to appropriately contact the employer. The important goal of this course was also a motivation of our clients – their situation may not be an easy one, but the optimistic point of view is also important. Obligatory number of persons to attend this course was 33. The course was finished by all 34 persons who entered it.
Computer knowledge has become one of the basics of today’s wage-earner therefore the next type of learning module were the ICT Courses. Those were divided into two levels – basic and medium. Basic ICT courses was finished by 22 persons of 23 who entered it. The area of this course was the acquaintance with computer, OS Windows and its basic programs – text editors and internet explorers. Medium ICT courses entered 11 clients and was finished by 10 clients. This course was intended for clients with some knowledge of computers and was richer by the inclusion of spreadsheet programs. The obligatory minimum number of persons to attend ICT courses was 27 hence our quote was surpassed by one person.
Clients were also given the opportunity to attend several types of vocational training – administrative assistant, tutor and call centre operator. These trainings were chosen for two main reasons. Firstly because of the structure of proposed jobs on the Czech job market - these employments are on the rise in last few years and are expected to rise in future too, as the tertiary system is being innovated and computerized. The second reason was the wide use of these trainings in waste choice of occupations. Most popular of these courses was Administrative Assistant, 17 persons entered it and 15 persons finished it. Tutor course was intended for all clients who wanted to properly hand over their own knowledge, no matter the specialization. Tutor course entered 6 persons and finished 5 persons. Least was Call Centre Operator course; it entered two clients but finished only one. Aside from these “normal” courses, each type of vocational training had also its e-learning form, so our clients could learn and practice even after the course itself has ended. Te the obligatory number of attendants (21) for this type of training was accomplished as well.
Last but not least from our choice were the English courses, as English has become the most commonly used language in business. These courses were again divided into two levels – Basic English and Business English. Both courses was finished by all persons who entered it – in course of Basic English it was two clients, eight clients in course of Business English. English course is the only one that has yet to accomplish its obligatory number of attendants. One more course is expected to be held in January 2010.
In total, 48 persons finished at least one of our courses. The structure of our clients was as follows: average age was 47 years, 54 % of clients were older than 51 years. These numbers may seem high, but it is reasonable in light of their disability. Moreover, these age groups have even more need of improving their computer skills and English language, as they are less common with it. Three quarters of our clients had secondary education, 16 % of clients attended only primary school, 9 % had a university degree.
